OUR HISTORY
BUILT ON DECADES OF HARD WORK
Our roots trace back to the late 1960s when Joseph Ciferno established Ciferno Cement Contracting — a regional staple in concrete flatwork, excavation, utility work, and trucking. In 1992, his son John joined the business as partner, bringing fresh vision that transformed the company. By 2008, John had taken full ownership and was steering the business toward the growing energy sector.
When natural gas production exploded in Southwestern Pennsylvania around 2010 — driven by the discovery of vast reserves in the Marcellus Shale — Ciferno was ready. We officially rebranded as Ciferno Well Services in 2011 to reflect our new focus: reliable water hauling for oil and gas producers.
Today we operate 48 water trucks, employ over 85 people, and serve producers across PA, OH, and WV. The values that guided our founding still guide us today: integrity, reliability, and a commitment to safety and excellence in everything we do.

CIFERNO CEMENT CONTRACTING FOUNDED
Joseph Ciferno starts the family business, building a reputation for concrete work, excavation, and trucking across the region.
2008
NEW OWNERSHIP AND DIRECTION
John Ciferno takes full ownership and pivots toward the booming energy sector as Marcellus Shale drilling accelerates.
2011
CIFERNO WELL SERVICES IS BORN
The company rebrands and launches water hauling operations. Starting with one truck, we've since grown to 45+ tankers and 85+ employees.
